Good morning — The Arizona Cardinals are continuing to what they have done so well the last few seasons: deliver disappointing results.
Fan tension is at an all-time high. Changes are being demanded. Some of those changes might be reasonable or not, depending on who you talk to.
Let’s talk about it!

Cardinals having QB trouble, again
USA TODAY Network via Reuters Connect
The Cardinals are having QB problems… again.
Arizona’s loss to the banged-up, Jameis Winston-led New York Giants last Sunday was not technically a must-win in the pure sense of that term, but it absolutely was a must-perform, for a few individuals.
One such individual was QB Jacoby Brissett, who has been a somewhat controversial figure among the Cardinals’ fandom. Brissett, obviously, took the reins from Kyler Murray in 2025 and was named the starter in 2026.
But it hasn’t looked good this year — and he did not perform in New York. Brissett completed just 21 of his 35 passes for a meager 166 yards through the air, throwing three interceptions in the process. The third pick was a game-sealing pick six on the Giants goal line in a game-winning-drive situation.
Brissett, through four weeks, ranked 20th in passing yards (818), but 29th in yards per attempt (5.4). His four interceptions are tied for third-most.
The most eyesore number of all is his record, which is an ugly 2-14 since taking over as Arizona’s QB1. Obviously, that is not all due to him. He’s performed well, at times. But it’s clear that this offense is not going above and beyond — nor making the clutch, winning plays — with him under center.
And so, the fans cry out for the debut of rookie third-rounder and Miami product Carson Beck, who showed out in his lone preseason game.
My take: To make a change at QB after four weeks is a rare sight, especially for a team with zero playoff expectations. However, this is not four weeks of Brissett — it’s 16. Much of his volume stats in 2025 came in garbage time.
It’s not Brissett’s fault. He is a well-liked locker room presence and a very strong backup, but he has not shown himself capable of being a franchise QB at age 33.
Does he give the Cardinals the best chance to win, currently? The truth is, we really don’t know. We’ll only know that once we actually see the alternatives, whether it be Beck or Gardner Minshew.
Arizona has a pocket of difficult games coming up, with matchups against the Rams, Broncos and Seahawks in the near future. If they choose not to expose Beck to those defenses, it would make sense.
But one thing is certain: Beck has to play this season. The Cardinals’ playoff “hopes” are already essentially nonexistent. They need to see what they have in Beck before deciding on their future at QB, because it isn’t Brissett.
Whether that comes in one week or a few, it has to happen, and it has to happen with a bit more urgency than there was previously.

Now, let’s see what else is going on in Arizona sports this week:
The Suns have officially kicked off their preseason. They’re 0-2 with losses to the Pistons (109-107) and Bulls (124-117). Good thing the scores don’t count. They’ll play again on Saturday against the Spurs at 7:30 p.m. in Phoenix.
The Sun Devils suffered a brutal 55-19 loss to Baylor on Saturday, falling to 2-2 in the process. They’ll look to rebound against Hawaii at home this weekend.
The Wildcats dominated Cincinnati 34-7 to move to 4-1 and get a 9:00 a.m. matchup with old friend Rich Rodriguez and West Virginia on the road.
The Diamondbacks have parted ways with pitching coach Brian Kaplan, as well as longtime play-by-play man Steve Berthiaume — both of whom were on expiring contracts.
